We might need to come to terms with the idea of such a scenario, where people don’t care/know about custody or freedom and relinquish those for convenience. However, as long as the fiat world crumbles and Bitcoin reigns supreme, then the good would have triumphed against evil.

Many US. based bitcoiners refer to 'the state' as though there is only one. So long as many nation states continue to exist, and there is a degree of hostility / competition amongst them, none of them will have the means to bifurcate the network, and manifest anything more successful than all other previous failed alts that have come before.
