Hey nostr, I have some nodes to sell!

Not only could you get some solid hardware (even @Start9 started selling some of these), but you also get my time & expertise. We’ll figure out how you need me to spend my time to help you - I am looking to be a resource to plebs trying to navigate migrating away from a rpi, devs looking to cleanup their digital environment, or enterprises looking to scale their solutions.

Laptop & desktop purchasers will be guided on installation, setup, & maintenance of their new physical & virtual servers! Proxmox is FOSS software we will use to allow for the commoditization of all of your machine’s resources, allowing you to get the most out of your purchase. With one physical machine, you'll be able to cram a dozen virtual ones inside while I'll show you how to manage their compute/memory/storage requirements and interactions.

These are used ebay purchases, I'm not trying to profit off the hardware, just stacking sats with my time. Shipping or pickup at #chibitdevs included. Until I offload this hardware and complete the hourlies, I’ll be restricting my assistance to these buyers. But, I'll likely eventually offer support for byo hw/sw.

https://btcpay.dimi.gg is now live, please chat with me before a purchase if you have any questions. Payjoin enabled.
Is there a btcpayserver setting to show taproot addresses / Does your payjoin-enabled wallet contain taproot utxos?
On wallet creation I had to pick a segwit wallet. I’ll create a new store later and check, I don’t think it works with taproot? At least it wouldn’t be too useful to me because taproot adoption is lower & you need both wallet types to be the same according to what I remember.

“Can I go without some parts to save sats?”
Yes! I’ll open source pricing & acquisition strategies later, for now just dm me.
 These prices seem fair.
They were even more fair before! Stupid exchange rate 😤
“Would you ship to my bitdevs?”
Sure! Idc where it goes, just clear it with your peeps.
“How will you handle the time commitments?”
First come, first served. Helpdesk soon™️
(Only planning a few hours per day & will do sync/async assistance mix)
 Proxmox preinstalled?
I recommend you build/install it yourself, but will for you if you need the extra nudge. You can practice deploying proxmox as a virtual machine later. I’ll look into preseeding later to do this better.

I’ve have a HP Probook 450 G2 that I ran a full Bitcoin archival node the last 8 years
They’re G2 has heat issues
The cpu power draw difference helps, but the G3 ain’t that much better.
 I have a few g2’s I didn’t list if you need parts 😅
 Pickup in Milwaukee as well?
I’ll need a pack mule for Jan’s meetup, but I can bring them to Tuesday’s!
Dimi has nodes for sale. Upgrade from that raspi.

 Upgrade😂
I got one of these because @dimi time is well worth the sats the hardware is a bonus.

Damn, what a comment. Thank you 🥹
 You know it's true. 💪
Where might a pleb go to compare your solutions to start9, rpi, or other node hardware?

Do you have a marketing site beyond btcpay page?
I really do need to market better 😬
I’m just starting to get some infra public, I’ll get around to a general site for myself with more complete info at some point.

An interested pleb should look up the CPU of each machine on https://www.cpubenchmark.net as that will make the single biggest difference in long term feasibility. I did a quick compare for the desktops as fast as possible (dayjob, 🤫) for simplicity. I do not recommend anything below 2000. Most decent consumer computers post-2014 cpu mfg date will easily clear this hurdle. I believe the new pi 5 does meet this particular criteria of mine, but I still disqualify them as viable nodes.

Beyond cpu, storage is the next thing to think about. 1tb is fine, 2tb is better, but you don’t really have to have a full archival node if you are cutting cost corners - so the 128gb I include in the laptops gets you by in a pinch, while still having 1 bay free for expansion.

After storage, memory is next. Max it. Doesn’t matter if it’s overkill, it’s cheap enough not to skimp on when possible. 8gb min imo https://image.nostr.build/bb4aac5d2b4d39520cf3603953c50285f03d0a86a21efc9db0d3bcabe8fd6c30.png
I suppose if you are targeting the hardcore nerds this chart is great. If your target customers are closer to the normie side of the scale, they will have nightmares after seeing this chart 😅
Just that bottom score is relevant to the normies as a rough benchmark. Stay above 2000, no need to go above 7500. Extra specs for the nerds.
But yes, definitely need to spend more time making things simplified/clearer.
 Buy hardware from @dimi

I like the profile pic as a marketing strategy, similar to mine.
couple questions... why should I trust you or anyone else's hardware/software solution?

#smij #tno

Well, you shouldn’t trust anyone’s hardware, ever, imo. It’s all fucked. But, you can’t exactly build it yourself and building in risk tolerance at the hw level is annoying as hell too. So at some point you gotta get over it & have some amount of trust in at least the manufacturer, to some extent. But as a generalist sysadmin, I’m able to help speed things up & support the decisions affecting different tradeoffs. For example, raspberry pi’s are fucking garbage - so I’d be able to explain why it’s a waste of your time and money setting up lightning infrastructure & expecting it to be robust.

Software wise, I’m using foss. Sure you can’t easily audit if I fucked with it, but I can easily make sure that you can replace the software yourself to avoid that. Proxmox is the right tool to use for this ime, and you should consider buying from me to pick up on how to use it, not to deploy a full trusted & robust stack right out of the gate. This should be like playing in the playground for most plebs.
I was going to zap dimi for the reply, but got a "not set up to accept zaps" message!?!?
anyway, I appreciate your response & perspective.

#stack on!
I love to see node projects like yours 💜
 Thank you! 🫂
Can I buy two machines but one block of your time?

New combo available! Desktops only, I’m not making shit off the laptops.
 List of items?
I need new hardware...
Right now I primarily have the elitedesks & probooks.

How much for just your time? As I bought hardware from you in the past. Also anyone seeing this just know dimi is legit when it comes to his sales. Went from a pi to an Intel NUC (not the best I know) but it has been solidly chugging along for awhile now. Just could use some help with the customization of my node. Keep up the good work dude!
That’s on the site as well! 75k sats/hr currently. 1 on 1 time is a great way to expedite the learning curve. & I won’t knock the nuc, it’s not a pi 🫡

Someone recently took advantage of that over the last few weeks & we pulled off a big service migration for something I had no experience with yet. Total pain in the dick but very fun doing something useful for bitcoiners at that scale. Moar!
Great deal! I'm spreading the word
Is the ram expandable or soldered? I'm assuming there's only one nvme slot? How many sata slots avail?
 https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05371240

35w i5-6600T

My low spec models have the nvme slot occupied with a 256gb oem consumer samsung drive, the pm981, intended to be the OS drive. The upgraded one comes with a 2tb enterprise sata drive, the pm863. There’s no other internal storage expansion.

Rams upgradable, 8gb in the low spec, 16gb for the upgraded one. Mix/match random generic 4/8/16gb sticks, same model whenever needed.
*2tb sata is in addition to the 256gb nvme.
