Why is there not an app where people can suggest systemic or policy changes to a certain region and then the politically engaged user base can give feedback and iterate on those ideas in comments and with versioning? Even having pieces of legislation “trending” and discussed in comments, with all the local drama, would at least congeal our frustrations and suggestions into something. We’re being intentionally isolated and we need solidarity and productive discourse where people already are.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any money or coding ability hahahahahahaha. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/025/632/485/570/101/original/db26d6a04f519b5a.mp4
@53de482a I think that would be an amazing idea, and I think that would come closer to my idea of a "participative democracy" type of thing. Anyone could get educated on certain subjects, then they could vote on those issues ! But then again, having that would make many politicians' jobs redundant ... So who's going to vote themselves out of a job ?? 🤣🤣
@53de482a Isn't this basically Discordianism, and the various schisms? Only without quite so much mischief, disinformation campaigns, and irrational elements...
@53de482a Because none of our democracies are actual democracies, just an ability to pick your poison every 4 or so years out of a few oligarchies that get to do almost whatever the hell they want until it's their time to go. An application like this would ruin their precious system, so they won't ever advocate for something like it, unless it's a symbolic form of it where you only get to choose out of some of their options instead. We don't lack technology, we lack a fair society.
@53de482a Sounds a little like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens%27_Assembly_%28Ireland%29 heard many people advocate for such in the U.K. and should’ve been done after Brexit in my view to create some sort of consensus.
@53de482a It's called “NextDoor” 😂
@53de482a I’m working on something somewhat like what you’re describing. It’s not directly related to national legislation, but it is based on collective intelligence from civil society.
