I do hope the Chinese people have alternatives like we do. Most of us here know the MSM is whacked on both sides so then turn go to newsletters, socials, podcasts, etc to try to find some signal in the noise.

I would imagine more people get their news from social media now than local and national coverage. Local probably more so than national too. The algo that optimizes for rage is probably just as if not more sinister than state propaganda. Less harm in local news for the most part until they all repeat the same thing word for word across all stations under the same ownership 😆

I stopped watching in the late 90's. Turned it all off, even FOX. Started calling it a "Nightly Views" Replace the word "News" with "Views" for a more proper and realistic name for anything news.
