 @JeffG is currently writing a NIP with MLS, which is kind of a upgraded double ratchet that can be used with larger groups. No clients have it yet AFAIK.

 Yup. it's going to be a bit longer, no one has implemented anything double ratchet yet. But hopefully we'll move to MLS as the standard.
