I said atheism.
There are many reasons. One of them being the practice of adopting aspects/teachings of the bible to shape their morality and definition of good vs evil without actually giving the bible any credit because surely human kind would have arrived to those conclusions with or without God.
Humans are wired to worship something. If it’s not our creator then it will be the environment, money, idols, ourselves, etc.
More recently some of these people seriously entertain simulation theory, but the prospect of a God that created everything is a bridge too far.
Going through life knowing that nothing matters because eventually everyone will become worm food has to be quite depressing. No wonder ppl need to be distracted 24/7 otherwise they would have to wrestle with that reality day in and day out.
People can find deep, sustainable, and healthy meaning outside of God and religions.
Sure, I don’t think my point suggested otherwise. I said people are wired to worship something, so if it’s not God it will be something else.
Finding purpose outside of God, does not change the fact that life is basically meaningless if we all just become worm food when we die as atheists believe. Hedonism is the natural conclusion of that worldview imo. Of course many ppl live by some of the wisdom passed down in the bible (as long as it fits their preferences) without acknowledging that fact either purposely or because of ignorance.
Are you implying the wisdom from the Bible originated with the Bible? Or more so the Bible deserves credit for relaying and aggregating that wisdom through time and space?
This is all fairly uneducated with regard to atheism. I suggest you YouTube Christopher Hitchens. He addressed your arguments much better than I ever could.
You’re free to label my observations of an atheist’s reality as uneducated, but I’m not sure how you arrived at that since by your own admission you’re uneducated yourself.
People have been convincingly refuting Hitchens for decades. Someone like Alex O’connor would have been a better suggestion imo, but I guess Hitchens is quasi famous, so people think of him first I suppose.
Since we are giving suggestions check out “I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist” or “stealing from god” by Frank Turek
Where did I say I'm uneducated? I've been thinking and reading about this matter for decades.
Of course, if you're unconvinced by Hitchens's arguments (or unwilling to hear them), then this discussion is pointless.
You pointed to someone else instead of addressing my points, and also labeled my argument as uneducated. What else is someone to conclude?
I’ve listened to enough of Hitchen’s to know his arguments are not particularly persuasive, which is why I pointed out Alex O’connor as a better suggestion.
If you have been reading about this matter for decades and your first thought is go point to Hitchens then yes this discussion is pointless, and so is life ultimately and objectively if there is no God.
I simply deferred to a much better debater, someone who has addressed all of your points directly. How you think that makes me uneducated is a mystery.
And the point of life is for it to go on. That's evolution, my guy! We are here because we survived. It's not that complicated. What's "silly" is thinking you need a god to explain what science has already gotten right.
