FG speaks on new DStv, GOtv prices as MultiChoice implements hike

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has revealed that MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has implemented a price increase for its cable services. The FCCPC received a four-page letter from MultiChoice outlining the reasons for the price hike, including the increasing cost of energy, the use of generators, and difficult access to dollars. The FCCPC will review these reasons and consult regulatory agencies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). If the commission finds that MultiChoice is distorting the market or setting unreasonable prices, it may take legal action against the company. In related news, Canal+ has announced its intention to acquire additional shares of MultiChoice, Africa's largest pay-TV company.
