Seeing as how we’re not tough on shoplifters soft on the causes of shoplifters, this is worth remembering https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/161/133/571/516/140/original/17531caf16865b63.jpeg
@38629c61 Also: Wage theft is much more important than shoplifting and is a direct driver of the latter. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/162/529/788/732/834/original/311a1a0030abc360.png
@38629c61 I was a kid, and in court because I was driving recklessly. blah blah. I had an attorney with me, my step father etc. Point was, the entire thing was basicly well under control FOR ME. A kid came up before me, no much older. He has shoplifted. They read a list. He had stolen the fixings for sandwiches. That. That embarrassed me. My whatever fine was settled without me even sticking around in court.
@38629c61 I used to really judge these people as my parents did Now as I stare down eviction and will have to live in my car, i get it. The shoplifting is still a hard sell, but honestly if I saw someone sneak out like vegetables or something, I'd give the benefit of doubt.
This brought out a lot of bootlickers attempting to “what if?” Their way out of feeling like bad people.
