 I do agree with you, but miners are expensive. I could scrape together an s9 or two, but then I would have to join a large pool and they’re the problem right? We need more decentralised mining pools 
 Except that the users leaving their pool is what has forced them to cave.

Even with an S9, the more hash and devices leave their pool when they do things like this, the better. Sure, until stratumv2 is universal or there is a clear P2P option that makes them obsolete, then we use those. But in the meantime, when they make stupid decisions, they need to see *signficant* shift in hashpower moving away from those who misbehave and try to alter the critical features of the network.

Even an S9 matters, if it is included in the count of those who leave when things like this happen. Grab a @CryptoCloaks case and use it as a space heater. Works like a charm. 
 I do want to start mining, and an S9 will end up being my space heater one day, but all I’m saying is that there don’t seem to be financially viable alternatives to these pools. Unless I just haven’t heard of them.
