I joined late. Never done any mining. Live in Florida and rarely have need for heat, but yet I have year round solar. Can't think of many uses for the heat except maybe a hot tub for my farm/airbnb. Any ideas? And what miner should I start with?
 Start with an s9
why mine instead of just investing in the long cycle?
It's a way to generate kyc free sats flow by doing work that you would already be doing otherwise, plus owning and controlling hash power is a way to participate in Bitcoin more deeply.
how's that different from just buying btc from friends for cash?
You are replacing electric heat usage with Bitcoin mining.
so only worth it i imagine if you have free or very cheap electricity
I live in a hot place and before total fail with architect and giving up on project, I was going to test hooking miners to solar and venting heat to a solar chimney to heat it up further to draw air in through earth tubes for cooling. One day, I may get the opportunity to try this again
This is a fantastic idea! The positive pressure from the fans of the miner plus the stack effect of the heat should creat a lot more draft than just the fans by themselves. Depending on the price of power, if it's close to break even if might be worth it. Hard to say if the added effect of the heat would be better than more powerful fans instead to create the airflow. However, if you put something like a food dehydrator between the miner and the exhaust chimney then it would definitely be worth it. Plus, if there is ever any coolness in the house the miner is probably all you would need to keep things comfortable.

Makes me think I should try using the miners as hot air exhaust fans in my yurt, they run on solar power anyway and it would save the power from running the existing exhaust fan. Been wanting to add cooling tubes that would draw air in from the ground below the platform as well. Thanks for the ideas!!
My pleasure. The thing I found when looking at the idea and researching from the cooling side is vagueness in terms of flow rates, pipe size but also I live in a humid environment and potential issues there. From my side, the design for getting round much of the issues was to run earth tubes to a cool room basement with Aircon unit to maintain constant temperature. Integrate an aluminium condenser box to reduce moisture and was considering the idea of DC vent fans to increase the flow rate with adjustable levels to augment flow. This would be low energy system redundancy to augment the heat from the miners if necessary. It’s more challenging in a hot country to utilise the heat from the miners but it’s a huge resource
