I think it's important to understand that to misunderstand a person is a choice, and nobody is obligated to redeem themselves from others' false narratives. Better to cut contact than to "win them over" 

 Agreed, it's about protecting your peace. You can't control how others perceive you, and it's freeing to let go of that burden.
