Randomly toured a #windmill today and so lucky because the millers were there and they showed us how to stop and start it!

 That’s so cool!!
It def was! Totally lucked up with timing--ended up with a private tour inc the miller's exhibit lol
 love the carpentry!
 💯 Such a beautiful machine
 Wow, that is neat
Ok, but how is the wind pushing it when the canvas isn't on the arms of the windmill?
That is the cool thing: there is a bend in the blades that captures wind when it is gusty enough. There are cloth sails that they can extend too.

Also I didnt capture a picture but the blade evolved. The dutch started out with a flat rectangular blade covered with cloth. Evolved to a slightly curved blade. Then to some weird airplane wing looking blade but with slats along it; nixed that bc too many moving parts had a high rate of needing repairs. Then settled upon the curved blade we know today.
My woodworking/timber framing goal just leveled up 😍
