Randomly toured a #windmill today and so lucky because the millers were there and they showed us how to stop and start it! https://v.nostr.build/UHaAn4h9WYmYTnex.mp4
That’s so cool!!
love the carpentry!
💯 Such a beautiful machine
Wow, that is neat
Ok, but how is the wind pushing it when the canvas isn't on the arms of the windmill?
That is the cool thing: there is a bend in the blades that captures wind when it is gusty enough. There are cloth sails that they can extend too. https://i.nostr.build/qo1FDkGFcqrHFVeE.jpg
Also I didnt capture a picture but the blade evolved. The dutch started out with a flat rectangular blade covered with cloth. Evolved to a slightly curved blade. Then to some weird airplane wing looking blade but with slats along it; nixed that bc too many moving parts had a high rate of needing repairs. Then settled upon the curved blade we know today.
My woodworking/timber framing goal just leveled up 😍
