It's a chat client. I do not understand wtf is going on in the background or why it's so poorly optimized
it's a self contained web browser is what it is
It serves images, text and video when needed. Element/Matrix, as poorly optimized as it is, doesn't even use that much.
Its data mining your computer processes to see what games your running amongst other things. If you're running a Matrix server just bridge your account, the only time you'll need to run the official client is for VOIP and Video stuff.
I tried the bridge. It works for like 5 minutes and then has a stroke. I need to figure out how to drop all the discord placeholder users from my database.
The documentation on it is also like a chicken fucking a football. But then again most of the Matrix documentation is ass.
i hurd XMPP on Open Fire is the way to go
I went with Matrix, because despite how much of a pain in the dick it is to set up and the quirks it has, it's at least accessible to end users. Plus it's encrypted. I know XMPP is too, but I had to weigh accessibility, cost and benefit. I wish more people would use it as I work hard to make sure it's updated and I try to add more features on top of all the other administration I have to do.

Yeah, most stuff you do will be worthless. Fact of life. I got rid of a lot of services because nobody cares lol. Sucks
It is what it is. As long as the people who use it enjoy it, I won't complain much more. Just trying to make sure people can call, conference and chat with each other without prying eyes.
 I’ll check it out!
Sweet! You can find the guide at https://nicecrew.digital/about/chat
https://github.com/mautrix/discord this one? I had some serious trouble with the older bridging programs, they would indeed stroke out and hardlock the server. This one doesn't seem to have too much problems.
No I was using this one. I can give that a shot.

I don't use it to bridge rooms, I use it to puppet my account and it works fine for DM, uploading stuff and chatting. If I need to VOIP it requires logging in to the real discord application. I doubt any bridging software will ever manage to get the VOIP stuff functional.
I'd like to bridge rooms, since that would be the main reason for using it.
Just checking the documentation, it apparently does have the ability to do bridging of rooms. But I've never used it in such a manner.
I'll try it out. Thanks for the recommendation, much appreciated. This seems far easier to set up than the other one too.
The background data is the troon waves slowly turning you into a gay furry the longer you use it
I keep trying to get these niggas on Matrix, like I offer the service for a reason but nooooooo
 I like matrix
I keep making the mistake of clicking on the URLs of instances that block mine
