How come when I first boot up my Supra, the hash rate is (relatively speaking) through the roof for a couple minutes, before settling back down around the expected?

nah, nothing unique. Stock firmware and the power supply that it came with
Iirc, hash rate is a function of shares accepted over time. Shorter time skews higher for hashrate. Disclaimer. I could be very wrong.
This is what came to mind first for me too. Until the difficulty is adjusted the miner will submit a lot of shares.
