Are we losing agency over what we see online? Social media platforms curate our feeds for engagement, not for our well-being. @NVK describes the problem with legacy algos in BR078. https://m.primal.net/Lgbu.mov
👍Said this years ago when it started. Originally, you curated your own. Then, thry started feeding us more of what we seemed to like (eg, Oh you liked something about red apples? Here’s a ton of apple content…) at the expense of other topics we may also want. It’s like a drug dealer-addict relationship.
How would an algorithm even begin to know what is good for your individual well-being? The algorithms are supposed to serve you content you'll engage with. Would you want to see a bunch of shit you don't find engaging? I understand the negative consequences that can come from social media use, but I don't understand the expectation that a social media company is supposed to somehow know what exactly is good for you. You are responsible for figuring that out for yourself. The algorithms are mostly just reflecting you because that's what makes money. They wouldn't be making money if they only showed you things that you don't keep choosing to engage with. nostr:nevent1qqsgyhf3c85a27zm0hmgzc0uc07r5an2fqp9n9nghpklx3asnp4avrgppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgsqxuwm0l2yxl8x8esdahp38jkka6930lrfrls9yv0e59qpxn7q6zqrqsqqqqqptx0nqs
