 That's mostly our own fault.
Why? Because we don't opt out or because we don't revolt?
Because we have culturally accepted political involvement in the every part of life. Ayn Rand wrote a lot on this topic. Read her work on collectivism and how it leads to what we have now. Culture, in general, supports most of the stuff people are complaining about. You can't change politics without changing the culture first. The problem starts with us.
Most people (I'm speaking from a US perspective, but this is true in most places) expect politicians to do things government should not be doing. You can't expect them to get involved in other people's lives and then get mad when they come for yours, which is exactly what many people do.

Governments are corrupt because we first demanded that they become corrupted. We demanded that politicians become central planners and so they became so.

We demanded 'safety' over freedom and got it.

The problem starts with us and so does the solution. Politicians are simply holding a mirror up for us to see ourselves.
I believe that you can't change the politics without changing the money...no other way. I hope that protocol like #bitcoin will break the backbone of Fiat system. This is the only way..for this to happen regardless if people wake up or not. In SOFTWAR I believe.
You can't change money without changing culture. This is why Ron Paul has largely made no progress. He spent his life avoiding the real issue, which is collectivist-altruist culture. That's why we have broken money. You can't fix only symptoms and expect the disease to be cured.
