There's a lot of validity to the whole "don't tie yourself to proprietary #software, use #FOSS instead" reaction to the #unity enshittification, but....
It's worth pointing out that Unity is (or at least, was) simply better than any of the FOSS alternative available, especially when you consider the added value of its asset store.
"Switch to #OpenSource" sounds easy, but it's entirely possible that many great #games *simply would not have been made* if it weren't for Unity's feature-set enabling their creation.
There are legitimate reasons that FOSS doesn't always reign supreme, even if proprietary software has its own disadvantages.
@b2d9fca2 I definitely agree. Unity is still overall an excellent product that reduces a lot of friction in the game development process for a lot of people. That’s why it’s so devastating to see them go the direction they have.
