The way that the UK is policing social media posts is insane. Every time I see one of their news anchors or government officials talking about how even just reposting content could be a criminal offense I’m like: https://m.primal.net/JscB.jpg

It’s a natural progression. The conflict with the IRA was Britains own “Patriot Act” moment. They’ve had ANPR (license plate recognition), and CCTV everywhere for years. There is no constitution, so no concept of 4th amendment. If you get pulled over driving in the UK, they’ve already established via ANPR whether you have a license, if the car is inspect, if you have insurance, if you have any outstanding warrants or prior convictions. Facial recognition (LFR) has been deployed for over a decade. Suppressing speech is simply the next step.
was the same in Germany a decade ago. Ended in massive amounts of immigrants gathering to gang rape citizens and finally people didn’t give a shit anymore about journalist watch dogs. At least temporarily.
The U.K. does not have a the right to free speech that the U.S. enjoys. British common folk are basically serfs.
I wouldn't go that far.. but we certainly act like it..
Maybe, just maybe we came over here to get free speech, not to avoid an a$$hole king and a little bit of tax on tea?
The king was relatively reasonable. It was his legislature that made all the problems.
Where are y’all finding news on this? What sources do you all frequent to hear some of these updates?
I think there's a vague undertone, not so much in the news itself but some of our news people are voicing #opinions. What you have to remember is it's the other way around here. Our #TV is bound by imprtiality riles but our p#rint media isn't, so fleet street get free reign. From what I see it's the other way a round over there. Your TV pundits can say what they like but print #media is more bound? Having said that, there is #anger here - and in the E#U - against social media bosses. IIn the typical #British way they'll actually ban banks and CC forms from procesing #payments for #Twitter until they pay fines, because that would be cheaper to #police.
Escalation is happening in many places and in different ways. I know someone here in Costa Rica who is a highly respected vet. He got thrown out of a chat group today by a secretary of minister of agriculture for pointing out new legislation on animal husbandry would result in less food for people and reduction of individual rights regarding rearing of animals. The attacks on freedom are global and supranational.
Australia isn't far behind. For now, all they do is delete your posts, or at least I haven't heard of anything worse yet. And the only reason we know about it is because its written into law that they can
"Noo, you don't understand. In the case of *insert country u don't like* it's authoritarian censorship because they promote *insert value you don't like*. But in our case it ain't that because we do it to defend *insert value you do like*." nostr:nevent1qqsg093wr0f2hvc4e7pkxhzu5693zfm5sqduwpdmy80r5y0u4dfk8scppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgsw4v882mfjhq9u63j08kzyhqzqxqc8tgf740p4nxnk9jdv02u37ncrqsqqqqqpjpeexq
It truly is shocking to see that in a first world western "free" country
Getting closer to V for Vendetta each passing month...
It's out of control .. nostr will gain a lot of popularity on the back of this thought control attempt by govt
