yeah, took a while to figure out to click on profiles and read several pages of notes and things before Following or Replying. It's too easy to get lulled into "everyone's so nice and smart here, and just a little edgy". 

there's also the case of the constant Reposts which i'm not sure if those are real people or algorithms either.
