Apart from utxo sharing/ideas schemes like ark, channel factories and mercury wallet, there's the ecash stuff (fedi and cashu) and cashu's proof of reserves idea is quite nice, although it is not perfect.

But if we want anything more sophisticated, I think we'll need to wait for some soft fork to come about, backed by solid research.
