UN Report Attacks Tether for Facilitating Global Crime

"The monitoring of Tether tokens through our collaboration with global law enforcement including the DOJ, FBI, and USSS (which was recently onboarded on the Tether platform) ensures unparalleled monitoring, surpassing traditional banking systems that for decades have been the vessel for laundering substantial sums proven by the fines that have been levied on them," Tether said in response.

I don't know what's worst. The "used by criminals" narrative or Tether's "we can be your oppression tool" counter.

Here's reality: A large percentage of what both Tether and the UN call "financial crime" is nothing of the sort. And even a large percentage of what are _legally defined_ as "financial crimes" are not crimes, have zero victims, and ought not to be defined as crimes at all. In many, many cases, it is just individuals and groups who don't want to be slaves to bankers, governments, or "majorities."
