🙌 this is awesome and a single chip is equally capable of mining a block than anything else. I forget mine is even running.

If you do hit a block on brains you’re going to get paid 25 cents for it because it’s a collaborative pool (also if you do some research and are anti antpool you’ll find that unfortunately braiins = antpool).

I run mine on ck solo pool which is easy to connect to.
That is very good to know, thank you so much. I will look into ck. Are you able to set up payments to a lightning address as well like in Braiins?
Not really the two choices you have are:

1. Mine on a collaborative pool like brains or ocean and setup lightning to get micro-rewards. If you hit a block you still only get a micro reward.

2. Mine solo on CK pool or public pool or if you search Nostr you’ll find a Dutch pool where a lot of bitaxes mine. You will get zero rewards (you won’t need lightning) unless you hit a block but if you do you’re getting a monster payout.
You can swap between both too - both are fun just be aware you’re not getting anywhere close to a block payout if you’re on a collaborative pool.
Great info here. Am I able to mine both simultaneously? Assuming not but just had to ask.

Also, not familiar with the Dutch pool that you mentioned about on nostr. Could you provide a link or note id?
No unfortunately there is no way to do both at the same time. People have talked about a mixed model pool before but it doesn’t exist.

I run against CK because I’m 100% confident I’ll get paid.

Here is the Dutch pools site

 Thank you!

When you say “I run against” are you saying that is what you’re using now? What makes you confident you’ll get paid?
CK pool has been around since the early days, and the bitaxe that won the reward this year was mining on CK. CK has very well connected nodes that have consistently allowed small solo miners to win. Also the other options are probably fine too.
And for clarity, two places to mine that will reward a full block (if hit) are:

1. CK
2. Pool.satoshiradio.nl

A lightning wallet is not needed as they do not pay out sats but blocks (again, if hit)
Yup and maybe “public pool” on your start9 node which I’ve never done.

You don’t need lightning with a solo pool because a solo pool will just send whole coins (!) to the address you’re using. Lightning is only used for smaller payments because the transaction fees on chain for repeated payouts might eat too much of the reward up - hence use lightning instead if you’re mining with a small amount of hash on a collaborative pool.
Or you start to use #Datum and make template with your node ,no need any pool for solo mining.
Can make pooled mining with Ocean and Datun and have fee discount.
That would be cool, I have not looked but datum on start9 would be awesome if you’re mining against ocean.
Datum have failover build in so when you are disconnected from pooled mining from ocean then is switched automatically to solo mining
Start9 packages are great ,you need Knots and Datum
Would love to hear more step by steps for this. I have a start9. Is there any video tutorials on this that you have found?
No,but in community forum search for switch from Bitcoin Core to Knots, after install Datum

It doesn’t seem that Knots is supported by Start9 yet, but soon
You can activate developer mode and switch from BTC core to knots,in actually version from start9 you cannot run simultaneously both
Pretty sure it’s on there from memory, try connecting to the community App Store instead of the official start9 supported one. I could be wrong 😑
Yes but you can only activating developer mode

Thank you very much. Will take a read later
Yep! It is. Now when I see it, it says that it is already installed (that being bitcoin core). So how to switch between the two, and what does this do exactly for when one sends a btc transaction to a sparrow wallet using electrum server?
Oh nice going to check that out
Yes,I think this is very important to use your node for mining and that is now possible with Datum
And don't forget, connection between #Datum and #Ocean are encrypted.
If your start 9 is synced I think you can also spin up a “public pool” instance which connects to your own node and lottery mine against that.
Could you explain a bit more on how to set that up? I’m still very much a noob and figuring all this jargon out
 What about using ocean?
Ocean is good - I had my start9 core lightning setup against ocean for smaller payouts. Again, it’s a collaborative payout pool. You might think you’ll get extra “credit” for hitting a block but not the case.
