Chain payments are 100% reliable because there are millions of computers for redundancy all sharing the same state. Lightning payments far less so because the route depends on single computers with individual states/balances This is another reason why enterprise custodians are dominating lightning, because they are in a better position to have redundant, high end infrastructure to increase reliability vs a $5 vps or a raspberry pi
Paranoid crypto anarchists when you tell them the average bitcoin user doesn’t have the technical chops to manage a high availability system with replication and regional failovers https://image.nostr.build/b11ba52d47f061cd2499782955be222f11a8a7a54434e816149350fb3d74bb70.jpg
This is so inaccurate. I have near 100% payment success, just 4 big channels on a raspberry pi. Picking good peers is the difference between payments routing and failing
You don't know when payments fail to reach you You've never had an Internet outage, power outage, force closures, stuck htlcs, 10-20 minutes of downtime to update, chan status borked? There is way more to lightning than just picking good peers, but it is the best start
Just last week I had 4 channels force close because of stuck htlcs all at once, shit happens sometimes on lightning, nobody is immune https://i.nostr.build/scMyomgU2aY6EAWC.jpg
$5 VPS is still kind of a custodian tbh.
