I think it makes it worse, because people aren't actually engaging here. But I'll be honest and I'll say that the people that have been asking for this tool for a while aren't fully in anyways. So it won't make any difference.
I agree it makes it worse. Ofc people want it because they can be toe dippers without doing the work. I agree people asking arent fully in, but tools like this give that cohort outsized impact on nostr feeds. Can relays block these?
I absolutely hate these tools. Cross posting in general is bad form and results in worse engagement with your content. This was true before nostr and will be true with this tool. The accounts that do this come off as automated and spammy, and dedicated followers (aka, the ones that matter to you) are turned off. It is always better to create content designed for each platform and natively post it to each platform.
people that want these tools weren't all in on nostr anyways. if anything, it allows them to easily cross post without copying and pasting. hopefully they're engaged on both and if they aren't, we'll pick up on that soon enough and give them an unfollow.
I have a couple people that want to use it, we'll see how it goes for them. Maybe you'll unfollow or block them right away, or maybe they'll see some engagement here and start paying a bit more attention.
Hootsuite wouldn't exist if there wasn't a market for this stuff. But all I'm saying is that it doesn't produce the results they hope for. A waste of time. But let people do what they want. 🤷♂️
im kind of guessing they don't care about results as much as we think they do. they're most likely just wanting to get their content out there for people that want it, not really caring about engagement. it's for influencers and their minions. as i said, i don't think it will hurt anything. if this tool would have existed back in december 2022 or february 2023, then sure, i would have 100% agreed, but now i don't think it matters all that much to nostr's core userbase. this is for people that aren't "here" already.
Influencers care more than anyone about their engagement and reach, and simple cross posting the same content on every multiple social networks increases neither. To each his own, but it's just not a useful strategy. On nostr they are up against the human algo, which detects BS pretty quickly. Cross posting on traditional social media hurts your reach and engagement within their algos, and in some cases can even jeopardize their ability to monetize their content on those platforms. This is not simply me not liking cross posted content. It is a strategy anyone serious about their content, audience, and reach should avoid.
Remember this? Customizable WoT filters COULD include ones that block posts from (or downgrade trust scores for followers who use) known cross posting tools. nostr:note1aej3d6n9twm7y8vgvq8dq5aahhy0wkc900xpdh8n8a7rsxm0msdspyrf85
💯 agree. My point is more that in general these tools have limited usefulness. The time they save in posting to multiple platforms seems nice on the surface, but it is all wasted because it is actually bad for engagement. Cross posting should only be used sparingly in certain situations. And for the average user casually posting on social media, it is a complete waste of effort.
🤝 The only case for cross-posting that makes sense is if you can receive replies and interact with them in one place. That would be cool, but it will also never happen.
It is bad for engagement though so it defeats the intent even in that case. Useful in some use cases, but mostly it works against you.
I am pretty sure now you guys won't use it, but this tools wouldn't exist without some people requesting it. They might be wrong and their use of this tool will turn against them. We won't know until they try it.
It's a tool. Useful in some cases. Not useful in the way many people think it's useful and use them. That's all. My point isn't that it shouldn't exist, but that cross posting in general is over/misused and won't be effective for most people in the way they think it will be.
I actually agree with your hypothesis, but now we'll run the experiments and see for real.
It's not a hypothesis though. This is nothing new. The only new element is Nostr 🤷♂️ I'm not arguing with you, so I hope it doesn't sound that way. Like I said, people can try it but it's not like this issue hasn't existed for years. Cross posting is intended to save time and increase reach. It ultimately does neither. Content needs to be repurposed for each specific platform. Tools like Hootsuite have been developed to help automate this to some degree, but it is still not as easy as write once and publish everywhere, no matter how much people wish it was that easy. Nostr will be no different. https://youtu.be/-U9lG009s1k?si=XUGXnnKhWkQ5I4Du
