@adbb894e moved here from the states not too long ago, but i somehow found myself at the Alberta NDP convention (last… October?). damn near broke my heart when they lost to the conservatives who are clearly following the US Republican playbook, just a few years behind but catching up fast. i was desperately hoping y’all learn fast enough from our stupidity to avoid the same mistakes. still, there’s far more hope, and enormous potential for the NDP here than i ever expected to see. that semblance of a social safety net garners a lot of complacency, though. combine the shiny promise of wealth from an oil and gas economy, and you’ve got a lot of people who think they’ll be fine, even if they don’t fight to protect their fellow working class. @665a2fe5
