I seem to recall the "moral majority" movement started at the outset of the 80's and lasted a decade, until everyone pretty much had enough of finger-wagging church ladies demanding their delusions (like the satanic panic) be taken seriously.

I seem to recall that "political correctness" became a concept taken seriously by the time we entered the 90's. I think we were pretty much done with it by the end of the decade.

I seem to recall that wokeness slimed its way out of the universities around 2012, and began hectoring "geek cultures" like video games, atheism, heavy metal, etc...until we are seriously now entertaining conversations about men being able to schlong women senseless in a boxing ring or a swimming pool.

Honestly, GenX coming into adulthood was pretty much the only decade where we weren't dealing with faith-based asstards constantly trying to comandeer the public consciousness in service of their immaterial hangups
I was lucky to grow up in Spain after the dictatorship in the 80s. That decade is the furthest thing from finger-wagging church ladies. Things started to go down in the 90s, though.
I'm speaking from an American perspective, and the only time I felt like everyone pretty much chilled the fuck out was first Bush term to second Obama term.
 "Satanic panic" 😅
I was traumatized in the late 80s by a VHS tape called Hell's Bells about Alistair Crowley and the Church of Satan basically writing all of Led Zeppelins music

Didn't stop me in high school from owning every album they ever made (thanks to BMGs 13 CDs for 1 penny miracle offer)
LOL I always wondered who took them up on that deal.
