I'm addressing this to what had recently happened and yes times have changed.......the level of criminal activities......how unsafe....
It's best to let authorities, experts  handle this....I'm still feeling uneasy. I was subjected to theft, harassment, my safety was violated and I was deprived from healthy experience, joy of networking with other professionals, joy of meeting people and enjoying events .....
