Martyrs aside, a person can wielded into some social group/belief system with enough effort. You just did't applied to become trumpist hard enough :), the arguments or other-ness are usually a red herring.

since naturally, for simple principles of ethics, as a 'good family man' 
anyone would reject it with disgust
