i vaguely remember there was this "You're in France now" vulnerability in the 90's where one'd trick Windows into believing the computer was in France, then the strength of encryption algos would be dialed back into (even then) easy to crack range

as we all know, only standard encryption algorithms such as CAESAR, ROT13, and ENIGMA (unless you're German) may be used there 😆
 😂

yeah learned that yesterday. But not just them, remember how the US Gov wasn't to fond about PGP and I think in the next 1-2 years we'll see a massive attack on encryption all around. The EU has signalled already that they want to end ETEE under chat control and though they had to pull the vote for a lack of majority earlier this year it will be back on the table as soon as the EU Parliament has been restructured.

Imo we need privacy tools more than ever before and it will probably make us criminals.
 lol

weak france cyber sec then x)
those specific constraints no longer exist, luckily

but yes it appears defense in depth is unheard of in their grand old tradition, maybe they they think a cyber Marginot line will protect them 😅
