But wait, what if someone just starts guessing the 12 words? Using software, coming up with a lot of sets of 12 words, sooner or later they’re gonna match with some account around the world #asknostr #nostr #grownostr #introductions
They haven’t yet and they have tried
Yet? Man, I thought that money was really safe
It is safe, you are the one that thinks they’ll get the 12 words… if they haven’t got the 12 yet, think how long it’ll take for 24
True, just extremely unlikely. It’s going to be much much later rather than sooner.
If every person on the planet used their computer to guess random seed words at the same time, it would take longer than the age of the known universe to find a wallet
“To find a wallet” meaning a specific set of words. But I’m talking about just a random valid set. That’s seems much nuch easier to happen.
Keep refreshing this page and let me know when ya find some Bitcoin 😜 keys.lol
What si that page? I don’t like opening unknown pages
It's a website that will generate an endless list of valid private keys and check to see if their is a balance. It's educational to show how virtually impossible what you're saying is
To guess a Bitcoin private key (256-bit number), the total number of possible private keys is: 2^256, which is approximately: 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936 This number is astronomically large. For context, the estimated number of atoms in the observable universe is about 10^80. Even with powerful computing hardware and optimized software, the time required to guess a valid private key through brute force would be virtually infinite. Regarding the guessing of a 12-word mnemonic phrase, the entropy is 128 bits, so the number of possible combinations is: 2^128, which is approximately: 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 Both numbers are incredibly large, meaning that brute-forcing either a Bitcoin private key or a 12-word mnemonic phrase is computationally infeasible.
Yeah but you’re talking about a case scenario in which someone tries to guess a specific key to a specified person or entity. I was talking about by chance guessing one. I mean I trust the security I’m not arguing against it. But with millions of 12 word sets out there, it’s not hard to imagine someone bumping into a correct 12 words merely by accident.
not hard to imagine if you don't understand math: The total number of possible Bitcoin private keys is approximately: 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936 The number of used Bitcoin addresses is approximately: 48,000,000 So, if you wanted to brute-force any used key, your odds would be: 48,000,000 / 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936 Which simplifies to approximately a 1 in: 2,412,335,706,746,879,482,170,172,892,843,054,624,393,338,332,664,416,490,405,475,573,312 chance of guessing a used Bitcoin private key on a random attempt. The numbers are so large that brute-forcing any key is still practically impossible.
Wow, I’m sure you’re a genius and that’s why you’re a billionaire right now I’m sure. Your mother didn’t understand math that’s why she had you.
I'm sorry if I upset you, I was only trying to help you understand that guessing ANY used private key is practically impossible.
and to be clear i wasn't trying to be snarky. It's just a statement of fact. If you understood the math involved you could walk through it and understand it. If you would like to learn, I'd suggest chatting with ChatGPT and ask it the following series of questions: graph for me the probability of guessing a number between 1 and 100 against the number of guesses: Do it again but assume there are 3 correct answers instead of 1 Do it again for the probability of guessing a bitcoin 12 word seed Assume we can guess 1 trillion times a second and do it for a year Assume we can guess 1000 times as many and do it for 50 years Assume there are 1000 times more used seed phrases It will explain the math to you and you can follow along, study some, and learn. Math is a powerful tool.
And also as someone else mentioned to you, if you have the computing power to validate a signature 1 trillion times a second you would be better off just mining it because most of the 48 million keys that are used don't contain enough bitcoin to matter. Making some assumptions we can estimate the amount of bitcoin per private key to be about 0.47 bitcoin. You can make more than 0.47 bitcoin mining it
