I believe that the maximalism on both sides is a sign of a closed-minded mentality, reminiscent of a cult-like behavior. It's clear that they are informed differently. In my opinion, Bitcoin falls short in several areas. Firstly, it lacks privacy, which makes it vulnerable to surveillance and censorship. Secondly, it's expensive to transact, which limits its usability. Lastly, the lack of decentralized payment solutions is a significant issue. The Lightning Network (LN) was supposed to address this, but it only works well when used with custodial solutions, which defeats the purpose of decentralization. Statistics show that over 90% of LN users rely on custodial solutions, which is a far cry from Satoshi's vision of a system that doesn't require financial institutions.

The Bitcoin maximalist community has failed to achieve this vision by creating centralized exchanges instead of nurturing peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions. As a result, Bitcoin has become primarily a store of value, rather than a usable currency. The maximalist community also fails to see that the world is more complex and nuanced than they think, and that Bitcoin's transparency makes it an easy target for the corrupt system we live in.

It's essential to acknowledge these limitations and work towards creating a more robust and decentralized financial system, rather than blindly promoting a single solution as the only viable option.
it was bitcoiners who sat on their hands for the first 5 years and said "nobody has ever been prosecuted via blockchain analysis." a few of them stopped saying that after it started happening but most of them still don't care. they are intellectually lazy and not proactive. and now they are going to sit on their hands and pretend that shoving everyone into a custodian is not a big deal, even after everything from mt gox to ftx. they are not the sharpest crayons in the box.
Didn’t one of them not pay taxes on bitcoin they sold? Then went on to brag about it after giving up citizenship? That was stupid lol
Mostly true. There is nothing thats needs clarification on that post.
Most of the world operates in a cult. We just call it culture. Cult is the root word for culture. Culture can be defined by saying “this is what we do.” So I don’t know if that is a bad thing. In my “cult or culture, my family.” We love each other we support each other, we educate each other, we eat the same food from the same pot, we drink from the same glasses, we sleep in the same house or same area.

With my friends we have a different culture. At work there is a different culture. The same with coins. We all have different cultures.
As far as the lightning network I agree. I don’t see a lot of people running their own node. Whether it is lack of time, interest, funds etc. I need to be free so I will always have at least 1 node.
The fees on the main chain are ridiculous right now so that is also very true.
Privacy… I’d rather be secretive. They can see what happens on chain. Ok cool. Good for them. I want them to see it. They just won’t know that it came from me because I keep secrets. Like a bank account. We keep secrets of how much we have or don’t have. We don’t tell the cashier. I have x amount of funds so this card should work. We just swipe the card and keep it moving.
Finally, everything happens in stages. Today the network nor the people are ready for bitcoin to be main stage. Me either. I want it to take 5 or 10 or 50 years. Maybe not 50. I probably won’t be here. Lmao

But you are right. It is nowhere near ready.
