 The lesson of Google is,
NEVER jump on board with the centralized corporation just because it’s “convenient”.

It will ALWAYS come back to bite you in the ass, and put you under a boot.

Imagine if the community built crawlers and indexers had continued to grow from then until now.

If you are stupid enough to think mega corporations are a feature of a free market, you will always end up a slave.
This week in the Linux enterprise security there was a case of a company that relied on Google vps service and out of nothing google cancelled all their data. They lost everything.
I'd love to work with people that use cheap FOSS solutions instead of Dropbox and Gooolag. N3xtCloud you dumb fuckers!
The even bigger thing to learn is that if a product is free, that means you are the product that is being sold. Nothing is free.
 This is largely true.
But what I’m thinking about is slightly different.
I have a thought rolling around in my head today that goes something like, “the existence of overgrown gooberment bureaucracy, and mega corporations is always a sign of neglect on the part of the populace.”
