The Jackal was a movie from 1997 that followed the villain (Bruce Willis) as much as the hero (Richard Gere).
While the movie had some flaws, especially Gere’s fake accent, I do really like that concept of following a villain as much as a hero. It can work well in a lot of contexts. Has to be the right type of villain though. Complex and interesting, or entertaining.
Arcane did that too, which is part of why I liked it.
Something about terrible accents in a movie make me like them more.
I enjoy ridiculous. Nicholas Cage has an entire catalogue of movies devoted to this. 😂
Have you seen the original movie Day of the Jackal? Stars Edward Fox as the Jackal. 1973. Starts slowly but builds the tension very well. Set in France with President de Gaulle being the target.
Absolutely great movie based on even better Forsythe’s book. 👍
Yes, the book is great. 👍🏻
Also the neat animations and the soundtrack 😌👏🏻
True. This is why I also like The Professional w Jean Reno
Seeing the world through the villain’s POV adds to the complexity of the moral decisions made by the villain and creates a richer story. It’s fun to imagine Star Wars from the POV of Vader. He’s trying to end the fighting and restore order to the galaxy and then his kid, who was taken and hidden from him by his best friend and mentor, shows up and throws a wrench it. It’s a simple arc in that he realizes terror and power isn’t the way to keep order but we’ve all fantasized about being all powerful and making the universe work the way we think it should.
The jackal. What a classic. Jack blacks first movie too, if I'm remembering correctly.
Take a look at Penguin tv show. It's building.
The original from 1973 is a great film
Loved the plot in the movie too. In many ways the interaction between the hero and The Jackal reminds me of Robert Ludlum's book 'The Bourne Identity'. Much more than the Bourne movies ever did.
The 1973 version is the only version for me. Watch it to the very end for a great twist.
The Jackal is in a League of its own. Great movie.
Classic movie. Always loved that one. 👍
Kind of related: in Sicario, the “main character” flips from the Emily blunt character to Del Toro’s character like halfway thru the film. Could say this was a flip from good to evil, albeit the lines are pretty blurred
It almost seemed like The Dark Knight followed Joker more than Batman and that movie was fantastic.
Heat does this really well too
