 @1da41359 It's an extension of the current situation (under-16s are banned from buying tobacco products; under-18s can't buy alcohol). Note that those under the age bars *can* legally consume those drugs under some/most circumstances (unlike the USA's ridiculous 21+ federal alcohol consumption law).
 @0c1a9324 @1da41359 have to admit I find walking into a cloud of sickly-sweet fruit-flavoured steam more offensive than the occasional whiff of burnt tobacco
 @4eb8aaa5 @1da41359 I have mild asthma, with a few known triggers: certain perfumes, mold spores, and cigarette smoke. Faceful of fruit-flavoured steam doesn't leave me gasping for a quarter of an hour afterwards. (Weirdly, cigars and pipe smoke are okay, as is cannabis. It's just whatever crap they add to the floor sweepings in commercially manufactured cigarettes that sends my lungs into spasm.)
 @4eb8aaa5 @0c1a9324 @1da41359 but before vaping (and definitely before the indoor smoking ban) it was constantly walking into clouds of burnt tobacco and was infinitely worse
 @73217061 @4eb8aaa5 @1da41359 I do NOT miss the era of going to the pub for an evening and having to wash my entire wardrobe, and my hair, when I got home. (And I was a couple of decades younger back then, so the stench didn't affect me as badly).
 @0c1a9324 @73217061 @1da41359 it wasn't just the pub, I remember upstairs on the buses or smoking carriages on trains being a perma-fog
 @4eb8aaa5 @73217061 @1da41359 I remember smoking on airliners. Yechhh.
 @0c1a9324 @73217061 @4eb8aaa5 @1da41359 waking up with a full-on smoker's cough, even though you didn't smoke.

Agreed.

Don't miss it at all.
 @0c1a9324 @73217061 @4eb8aaa5 @1da41359 It was horrendous, I used to put all my clothes in a bin bag, tie the top and leave it outside, then have a shower. If, after a few, you made the mistake of getting into bed unwashed, you paid next day with a change of sheets. Duvet covers with a hangover... 🤮
 @0c1a9324 By the way, I find your "vastly less carcinogenic/toxic/offensive to by-standers" comment to be way off the mark. The carcinogenic and toxic effects to both vapers and those around them are in dispute, but the offensiveness is even worse than tobacco in the experience of many. Have you already forgotten the pregnant woman begging Boebert to stop vaping in the theater and her refusing before she got thrown out? The camera showed the immense clouds of shit she was forcing everyone around her to breath.
 @1da41359 Boebert was vaping? (Didn't make the news here.)
 @0c1a9324 @1da41359 oh wow i wish i was you and got to watch the video of her in the theatre for the first time
 @f78281c4 @1da41359 Sorry, I don't do video (and I'm especially not lending my eyeballs to a publicity-hungry neonazi).
 @0c1a9324 I assume you're referring there to the restaurant alcohol rules "if you’re 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal". I always found it odd that a lot of people, including some pubs and restaurants, are not aware of that.
 @ce774c67 It's legal for parents or guardians to serve alcohol to minors at much lower ages at home—IIRC the minimum legal age used to be 5? (I grew up having a small glass of wine with the Friday night meal before synagogue from about 8.)
 @0c1a9324 yes, I think you are right, it's 5. Ours had a drop of wine now and again, too, birthdays etc. I'd never realised that the US law is a total ban, not just a sales restriction, is that right? Does that mean no tiramisu or trifle? No cans of Shandy? 🤔 I need to read up on it 😊
