i don't get it? how is running a bitcoin lightning node on your phone not holding your own keys? you own the device. it's yours.
1. Phones aren't secure 2. Lightning is sus Having keys to regular on-chain crypto on a hardware wallet is much closer to holding your own keys
You have a custodial Lightning address from a mobile app attached to your profile. You’re being a hypocrite.
So in your world, it's hypocritical to criticize security flaws while testing platforms? Weird post
If you go about criticising in an absolute manner, then yes.
No. Lightning is absolutely sus. Testing the infrastructure available to me while I criticize it in pursuit of a better future isn't anything like hypocrisy
So do I 👀 Though pay@derekross.me does exist and work as I used to use it. I go back and forth on updating my address back to the one host. My server gets hammered with http requests and my node gets an incredible amount of unpaid invoices being generated. It's probably fine now, but I'd hate for things to go down and me not be able to receive Zaps. Your Zeus Pay solution fixes that for small time node runners like me.
I’ll say it again, and I’m starting to feel like a broken record…. Some people are determined to let perfect be the enemy of good enough. Zeus is releasing a product that moves the needle in the right direction. That’s how software works. Incremental improvement. “Is sus” is a terrible technical criticism as well.
This npub is sus. It has a cat profile pic.
Great. Now I’m suspicious of myself. I’ll spend the rest of the day dealing with this complex Derek. Thanks. 🤣

Zeus commit msg: refactor to remove sus. Replace with confidence.js.
I feel like we would at least use Typescript for that file 😅
You’ll be accused of being a Microsoft lackey.
Fuck what people call you. Typescript is useful.
You only run 1 node? That might be the problem. 😁
It's directionally correct. The role of a wallet is to nudge people inch by inch in the right direction rather than to alienate everyone who isn't prepared to go all in with a full node and steel plate.
Such a high deposit requirement does alienate people
It alienates more than a custodial wallet, and less than being told to run a full node and sign with airgapped entropy. And yes, lighting has issues. What's your solution?
I guess my first try for at least a temporary solution would be like, a NIP to add non-lightning tipping support
It's so little compared to the time, effort, and hardware required to setup your own node. Totally worth the price.
Probably worth the price, but makes me paranoid
I've been using the alpha for close to a month, it seems to be working well so far. Another option is Mutiny wallet, it seems to work well too. It has about the same setup fee. I have channels of ~1M sats on both. No lost sats, even though both are technically beta software. That being said, I try to not keep an amount I would want to lose on lightning, so take that fwiw.
It doesn't matter what device hardware you're using for a wallet. Holding your own keys is the desired outcome which is infinitely better than someone else holding them. Now, if you're trying to make a distinction between hot, warm, and cold wallets, I could see that argument. Only hold in a hot wallet what you're comfortable losing.
