Seriously, though...I think rather what I'm hearing most in criticism of AI is that we're not weighing the pros and cons of building and unleashing these machines. And that their utility becomes less important when a machine is actively and demonstrably causing harm (arguably of the reckless variety) for some subset of human beings. 
 @726b5433 That's criticism I will absolutely join in with - these things have the potential to be extremely disruptive (in both good and bad ways) to a wide range of things, and we need to be thinking very hard about those impacts and how to mitigate the negative ones

Saying "It's all just dumb hype, they're not actually useful for anything" gets in the way of those conversations in my opinion
