As someone who works multiple million dollar industrial military complex contracts I can tell you from personal experience that it's an enormous chunk of the economy. We actually pay ourselves tremendous amounts of money in work that stays in the US to make missiles and tanks, because they simply cannot be made elsewhere. Virtually everything you buy is made in China or Mexico. All the shit we send to Ukraine was made in the US and heavily benefits Americans, even though Ukraine is "getting it for free".
Profits in dollars, losses in lives. They got nothing for free.
Yeah, but it seems like people forget really fast that you can die of starvation, too. Our country is built and fully reliant on the military industrial complex and ignoring that fact is a great way to start global collapse. Does that mean we can't change it? Of course not, but it takes more than just senseless bitching and crying. It takes actual thoughtful planning and action.

Fixing the money fixes the incentives. That fixes the degenerate behavior over a longer period of time. There's a reason when Rome fell it was full of pervertedness and pedophilia. Much like you see today. It's the incentives. It's the money. High time preference society.

Obviously all things being equal you cannot fix the current problems with broken money. There wasn't a shortage on people's actions. There was a shortage of hard money. That's why people subscribe to the first statement.
