Hong Kong activist Joey Siu describes 'transnational repression' by China

Joey Siu, a prominent pro-democracy Hong Kong activist, continues to face "worsening harassment and also threats" from China even after moving to the U.S. Siu, who holds U.S. citizenship and was born in North Carolina in 1999, became a core figure in Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement as a student. She left Hong Kong in response to China's draconian security legislation in June 2020 and now continues her activism from Washington. Siu is among the five overseas activists for whom Hong Kong issued arrest warrants in December.
