Great lines!!! What language or what language are the symbols based on?
Literally the basic strokes of calligraphy 🖋️
I think you would be very skilled at Japanese calligraphy.
If you give me some inspo/reference/explanation I could do a piece :) I have the appropriate brush in fact.
Give me sometime and I can send you some samples.
No rush at all, I ‘ll be happy to get it any time in the future:)
@agichoote In 2017 I did the Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage, I am sure you would especially appreciate the kanji of Japanese mixed with the simplicity of nature. Each temple has their own goshuin 御朱印, which for me each is a master piece and memory. #photostr #photography https://image.nostr.build/e55f6a6e0219112f8648553638c8f41efc1c5b5752be2fe7a18ee4f9c652b543.jpg https://image.nostr.build/60b8680931211bb3c8d4a5005bb12574a77375458ab072411814988945d8886a.jpg https://image.nostr.build/aa4b0268fd709e06be1a534b273554748695231717e05c2cd5fc5d88c2d3bfcd.jpg https://image.nostr.build/4dc8a24cafca759dd485a4f9ec5d15c0e1b760cc706b0d34cc029f9b1d321d1e.jpg https://image.nostr.build/32c3999b4f7c6658b4cd4ffcc397e051c73e05eda5290d1c6e16a4927f5c1d35.jpg https://image.nostr.build/4f53b5c6b0cdc88f24903a2091654cd7bd830865f8d1610fe0c53b1e8bebfad5.jpg https://image.nostr.build/dfe320badb5803ba751ac1104e8d6d85a4f747fad692602740ae584915ff2e05.jpg
Really impressive ! What about the red stamps ? I notice it’s most often a mix of stamps and brush strokes. And are the characters common with chinese in some way ? I’m learning basic chinese in last months and it seems to me that i recognize some characters
The red stamps are the official stamp of the temple, similar to a signature. Often these will use an old or unique way of writing the kanji. Also the Japanese kanji is from China so there are lots of similarities to Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional. You should definitely visit if you can and take a Shodo class.
So I can develop my own stamp of my “inner temple”?
Yes! You can personalize your own印鑑 stamp with whatever design. Depending on the material and where you get it done it will cost between $30~$500 usd.
八十八 for example
Yes 八十八 = 88, it is nice that I can read the menus and get general ideas when I visit China but can't understand full context maybe 5%. 豚 is a common one I see on the menu, just need to make sure it isn't the intestine I am eating.
我不说日语
80/20 Rule: 20% of study time to master 80% of the language, and then 80% more study time to master the final 20% of the language. China will accept 20% while Japan expects 100%. If you don't speak Japanese perfectly, then you don't speak Japanese. Even my work's professional translator gets these criticisms. This culture has its pros and cons. Also if you think about it can we truly speak any language perfectly?
