Fun in the sun with beef tallow ☀️
I use beef tallow balm as a sunscreen and tanning oil. It lets the sun kiss your skin and leaves behind this perfect golden glow.

#AskNostr - Do you guys use:

B) Chemical #Sunscreen
C) #TanningOil

There's nothing healthy about a tan!
Yeah, there is, dude. Especially if you're not stuffing your face full of seed oils and wearing UV blocking sunglasses.
Omg yes I read that eating less seed oils will lower the risk of being sun burnt. I almost never eat seed oils (maybe if I have sweet potatoe fries at a cafe) and I can say I never get sun burnt and I have not worn sunscreen since I was like 12.
Yes. I think it's very true, but... Going full on beach sun to rarely exposed parts was absolutely not smart on my part.

My advice is to ease into it. 😅

But gosh, tallow is so good on my skin!
You're like Hubby. Turns into a lobster in five minutes and I'm barely tanning. 😂
 Why do you say this?

Slightly tanned skin from sun exposure can be quite healthy due to the production of vitamin D.

1. Vitamin D Synthesis: When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) rays from the sun, it synthesizes vitamin D, which is essential for numerous bodily functions. Vitamin D helps in calcium absorption, promoting bone health and preventing conditions like osteoporosis.

2. Immune System Support: Adequate levels of vitamin D support the immune system, helping the body fight off infections and diseases more effectively.

3. Mood Enhancement: Sun exposure can improve mood and reduce the risk of depression due to the release of endorphins and the regulation of melatonin production, which affects sleep cycles.

4. Cardiovascular Health: Not 100% sure how true this is, but I read a few studies that suggested vitamin D may contribute to heart health by influencing blood pressure and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

I’m sure there are more points I could add, but these are the ones that come to mind first.

Obviously anything excessive, like excessive sun exposure can increase the risk of skin damage and skin cancer, but there is for sure a balance between benefiting from vitamin D and wrecking your skin from 24/7 sun exposure your skin.
 Sun your balls.
I wore nothing last Saturday and paid the price. My chest and back were one solid, awful burn. Beef tallow has been helping restore my skin better than anything else I've ever used.

This was my own fault since I hadn't exposed those areas to the sun much and should have eased into it by wearing a shirt most of the day.

I still have a lot to dig into about the junk in most sun screens, but I think they're well be a few that I could buy or make that would be effective without having too much junk in them. But 100% yes on beef tallow!
Andrew Huberman has an excellent podcast about the latest data on sunscreen pros and cons, skin care, etc...

Afaik you have some sunscreens that are indeed sort of harmfull in certain conditions, but the more traditional ones are not harmfull but they tend to be less appealing to use, leaving that well known withish look in the skin

For me is a bit of sunscreen the days I know I'll be under the sun full day, to avoid sunburns.

No tanning oil nor tallow, If I want to have a nice tan for the summer I'll take is slowly over one or two weeks of regular exposure

lol I thought I was a beef enthusiast
 😅🫂
Haven’t ever put anything on my skin. Tallow sounds nice though.
A clean diet and good hydration is my key
 🏆
That sounds very tasty. Oh wait ... What? ..... 🤤😋🤤
My dreams will come true.
 🙃
Still eating grass-fed beef liver every day.
Not now, but when I’m home I do.
Oh, I meant that I'm eating them still. You got me hooked on the beef!
I definitely wish I used something yesterday 😅 sun hit me hard, and the funny thing is, I knew I was getting sunburnt, but I couldn’t really do something about it. Now it’s raining again, gotta love Belgium 😎

But what is beeftallow??
😅 if you are burnt now just cut some aloe and when it dries rub some tallow over it.

Beef tallow is a form of rendered fat cows, typically derived from the fat surrounding the kidneys and loins.

In terms of skincare, beef tallow is beneficial for several reasons:

1. Nutrient-Rich: Has A, D, E, and K, which are essential for skin health.

2. Fatty Acid Profile: Tallow has a fatty acid composition similar to that of human skin, which makes it easily absorbed and effective in maintaining the skin's natural barrier.

3. Moisturizing: Tallow is a really good moisturizer that can penetrate deeply into the skin.

4. Protective Barrier: It forms a protective barrier on the skin, shielding it from environmental stressors such as wind and sun. This barrier can help prevent moisture loss and protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

5. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Has anti-inflammatory properties that can help irritated skin.
Which brand or product are you using? I'm curious to try it out.
 Me too, kinda.
Check above, I just responded to @HumbleSatsMan
Actually this one I had on that day my friend had made. A while back I read about beef tallow as a sunscreen, but since I have only been sunburnt once one my adult life (I don’t recall being burnt as a child) I hadn’t considered trying it.
However, I’ve always found beef tallow to be a really nice moisturizer for my skin, and now I’ll add using it under the sun as another good idea🥰

B chemical sunscreen usually or nothing
🫣 so you are going the two extreme paths lol
I am sometimes thinking there won't be enough exposure and pay the price later for not using it. Still I am getting a lot of tan even with sunscreen. How much does beef tallow protect?
It does not protect your skin at all.
It just hydrates it. It won't protect you from skin cancer or from getting tan. So if you are already skinburned, you can use it as a moisturiser.
😂🙏 hopefully not burning too often.

Honestly, I’m still new to this. This was my first time trying beef tallow as a sunscreen, so I can’t say for sure how well it prevents burning since I rarely burn. However, I did notice it enhanced my tan that day.

My girlfriend, on the other hand, has very fair skin and has been using beef tallow as a sunscreen for a while. It works for her. I remember she used to get sunburnt frequently growing up, but this time she had no burn at all. So, I guess it somehow works?
Burnt lips and two small places on each hand yesterday 😞 but usually it is not bad. Sometimes a lot sun makes me tired even without burning but that is probably just due to being outside doing stuff 😂.

I am looking for some daily cream with enough protection that would not ruin clothes and would not smell much and would not be harmful, can you recommend something?
Peter 👀 Burt lips … omg I didn’t even think about lips burning 🥵

We need to #AskNostr because I’m not really sure what’s the best as I’m not usually protecting my skin as I basically never burn so it’s not something I think about much.
But for sure we need to find something for you if you are burning your lips 🫣 I’m guessing you already wear a hat? Because I would imagine that protects something from the sun.
It seems like rituals has some stuff with spf for lips. I haven't really expected that to happen but wind and clear sky on day full of hiking can apparently do that 😂 still it was pretty much only place that I forgot to cover with suncreen or some clothes.
 Gorgeous 🥵
How I imagine myself after using beef tallow to tan

D ofc, was burning at first but now my body is used to it
 E. I provide my body with sunscreen through diet. Lots of vitamin C and especially astaxanthin, a natural sunscreen vitamin.
 🏆
Where would you buy beef tallow? Or which brand maybe?
