 The goal is to frustrate you to the point where you accidentally approve one of them. Be careful. 

 That explains all the password reset requests I’ve been getting.

And they put it in to "log in" and the service said 'hold up' gimme code.

So ye, not good

 yeah i'd say it sounds like an attempt to breach this person's accounts, nothing to do with the date i'm sure... this looks like a concerted attempt to pwn
