Finished reading book one of Harry Potter to my kids tonight :) They’re already looking forward to book two. That surprised me. I bet they’re going to be surprised to meet Dobby, since I named our chihuahua after him. I wonder if they’ll think of him as a girl, since our Dobby is a girl 🤭
Fun stuff! How old are your kiddos. My niece was obsessed with Harry Potter the last couple of years.
My daughter is 7 and my son is 9 :)
Awesome! :) My niece is 8 I think now.
My oldest is 2.5 years. Not quite old enough to read them Harry Potter, but I’m looking forward to it.
👀 I was reading them to my son at bedtimewhen he was a year old-ish, lol. He didn't know what I was reading, but I had the urge to read them 🤷‍♀️. He's older now and we're on book 6. He loves them.
The difficult thing about the Harry Potter series is it gets darker and darker as the books go along. When the books were coming out, there was enough time between books for kids to mature and be ready for the next book, but if you start your kids on the first book when they are just mature enough for it, they will want to read all of the books, but likely won't be mature enough for the later books. I found it a little difficult deciding when was the right time to introduce them, but it has been done and they enjoyed them.
Meanwhile they’re playing horror games on Roblox 😂 yea I get that. I bet when Harry and Cho kiss my son will make vomiting noises.
The first book had stuff in it I felt a little uncomfortable reading to them. Hagrids drinking for instance and all the “kill him” from Voldemort in front of the mirror of erised… but you gotta learn about death at some point and they’re already aware of it because of great grandparents passing away in the last year/few years. I read a chapter a night at the moment, but could space it out a bit more as we get deeper into the series. Or we could take a break and switch to another series when it starts to get really dark.
