GitHub is forcing 2FA now as well. 🙄
The issue is not 2FA, but the SMS as a second factor. There are ways around it though.

Good. 2FA isn’t the issue, SMS is.
Doesn't need to be SMS though so its OK.
You can do that with Yubikey or TOTP. It saved me from the IG hack that exposed the passwords from the backend.
