The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced it will bestow a replacement Oscar on Hattie McDaniel, 60 years after hers went missing. The statue will be given to Howard University, as McDaniel intended. She was the first Black person to win a competitive Academy Award, which was given in 1940 for her supporting performance in “Gone with the Wind.” Variety has the details.

@78474ccf Good news. A few years back I saw her memorial in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. She had wanted to be buried there but the cemetery had a "whites only" policy in those days. The memorial was installed decades later.
