Running a full bitcoin node is a great way to enforce your rules, at least in your blockchain local copy, even against miners. But miners (more than 50% hash rate) can still restrict those rules (soft fork) in the way that you don't want, and your node will just accept it, even without running the new rules, because it is valid in the previous concensus and the chain with more work will be that, with the new rules, remember > 50 % hash rate. Can it be problematic? I think yes.
