 Doesn't that mean it's using apple push notification servers? 

 You have the choice of using those or the local ones in app 

 I guess I probably stopped using iOS before the  local ones were a thing because I don't remember that being an option but that's cool 

 Local ones were available for a long time. Push came more recently 

 Strange, I really don't remember lol, it's been over a year or so and my memory sucks
