@aa292f70 Have you seen "Stalker" by Tarkovsky? I happened to see it for the first time shortly before watching Blade Runner 2049, and I feel like the former kind of opened me up to the latter /taught me how to watch it.
@db6c47ce No, but I have watched other movies by him.

I'm not unfamiliar with non-mainstream movies. I'm just not convinced it is a very good movie for what it tries to do. It leaves out too much, it's subtleties are often too subtle, some of the scenes don't really make sense or distract from the point they want to make. It looks beautiful, sure! And the acting is good. Still.
@aa292f70 Yeah I think it kind of tries to be an art film mood piece and a blockbuster at the same time, and is worse for it.
@db6c47ce Take the scene with the replicas at the end. Why talk about a rebellion when that's of no importance to the movie and the main point is to reveal that Joe is not The Chosen One. That in itself is a very anticlimactic turn. I almost missed it!

Or his supervisor's motivation to sacrifice herself for him. Her flirtation attempts are almost unrecognizable. Then she gets killed, but she didn't even shield his tracking information from whom she knew was coming. Why?
@aa292f70 Yeah it's been a while (saw it in theaters) so I don't remember these specific issues, or even many details at all, but I do remember feeling bothered by some plot things that didn't add up.
