 Our criticism of recently published
Wired article: "Wired's Attack on Privacy"

https://simplex.chat/blog/20241016-wired-attack-on-privacy.html
Wired is a sleaze rag that's a shadow of the former Wired of the 90w and early 00s. It's run by the 'woke' dictates of the Condé Nast suits in NYC, and they are also in decline. So of course they'd choose a sensationalist angle on the whole messenger privacy reporting.
If nobody was paying attention, it would not have been a problem. But many people, beyond the niche of technologists and privacy supporters, are misled to see privacy as something that enables rather than reduces crime, and it may have very damaging consequences for democracy – it's a real threat. So this response is necessary.
Let's see what sorts of other things do they write about:

Of course, and I heartily agree with your public response.
 Anonymity even more so
Wired has been trash for many years now.. ..not sure they even have enough views/engagement for their articles to even [really] matter
Actually they do because their political allies in for example Wikipedia editor corps use "reputable sources" as a way to push and reinforce narratives.
admittedly i didn't dig into their analytics or funding.. ..just seems like after ~ 2012 they became useless
 Sounds about right.
how to catch impersonator handle ? using secret code?
I thought Wired’s article was glaringly one sided.
I miss the Kevin Kelly wired. I still subscribe but it's a shell. The last episode had like a feature of secretary of state blinken 😞
Playing devil's advocate, they also raised awareness of SimpleX as a superior alternative which may have a nice Streisand effect.
Not just wired but alot of the tech folks are infected with the woke mind virus. sad to see!
The need for cyber security existed entirely out of a need to prevent people being a victim of cyber crime.

People being tech-literate and using the best technologies available to them is standard to a connected society. This can't be prevented and no developer ever deserves to be blamed for what is outside of their own control.

Cyber security is non-negotiable and making compromises enables criminals more than anything else because criminals prey on the weak, the vulnerable, the easy targets. Making a spin on tools that empower the vulnerable as tools to enable criminals is nothing short of slanderous to the projects and the good people protected by these works.

Solidarity
