==========

U.S. job openings in April fell to 8.06 million, the lowest total since February 2021. This is a decline of 300,000 from March and 1.8 million from April 2023. Job openings increased in private educational services but decreased in healthcare, social assistance, and local government. Job separations were little changed from March, holding near 5.4 million. The number of quits, or voluntary job departures, was 3.5 million. Hires increased slightly to 5.6 billion. The data on quits and hires suggest a sense of confidence among workers to leave their jobs and move to new positions. Layoffs and discharges remained steady at 1.5 million. The number of job openings for March was revised down to 8.4 million, while the number of hires was revised up to 5.6 million.
