Me during the pandemic: Yes, we see an increase in revenue and sign-ups because this is an anomaly. Shouldn’t we treat it like an anomaly and prepare accordingly?

Investors then: It’s a boom! Let’s spend and hire like never before!

Investors now: We could never had predicted the slowing economy. We’re really sorry we have to lay off all these people. 

 @90431d67 I'm even more cynical and I believe they knew they were hiring into a boom, but they needed a bunch of stuff done, and that they could fire those people when the boom was over, and all protestations to the contrary are crocodile tears.
